February’s Muse

Without Winter, there is no Spring. True winter showed up late this season. Current status. My long awaited snow storm finally arrived  in full mode.  Somehow, as I’ve grown more mature in my skin and environment, I look forward to the peaceful nuances that accompany this season.  We have a choice to move away from it, or to embrace it. I choose to embrace it. I’m inspired by many opportunities and effects from the weather. It calms, soothes and relaxes our over stimulated minds. To embrace the cold is courageous. Discovering nuances within it is an alternative mode in thinking. We experienced a Full Snow Moon Eclipse this week. See photo below with description taken from the web.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE COLOR SPECTRUM & THE IMPORTANCE OF CHAKRAS

Now we shift the topic to other aspects of February, such as the month’s Birthstone – Amethyst, and the color purple – the creative stone. Need a spark? This is the stone. Feeling a void in your life?  Are you experiencing  stagnancy? The rich hues and the energy of Amethyst are stimulating, and can enhance your inner visions.  I love color and purple is among my favorites. Check out my purple board on Pinterest. I’ve written extensively about purple in past blog posts.

There are many approaches to color and how they can effect you emotionally, physically and mentally. Yes, we feel color. Color indeed stimulates the brain. The warm side of the spectrum inspires passion, fire, assertiveness and stimulation.  The cooler side, such as blues, greens and purples can calm and provide a sense of serenity.

Have you ever realized that you’ve been drawn directly to a specific color? This is one way color affects our emotions. Some colors simply feel good. Others do not. It’s a personal preference. The influence of color dates back to ancient Egypt, India and Greece.

Chakras are centers of energy found in everyone, and these centers receive, transform and distribute that energy throughout the body. Chakras play an important part in our physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Although purple and Amethyst are associated with February, so is red because of Valentine’s Day, hearts and candy. In Ayurvedic medicine, the color red is a grounding hue representing passion, danger, power, determination, desire and love. Red is the Root Chakra, at the base of the spine.  Yellow is a color for power and ego, associated with the Solar Plexus, or navel are below the chest. Orange is the combination of sultry red and joyful yellow. Orange is associated with sunshine, the tropics and spirituality. Worn by Buddhist monks  for many centuries, it was an easy color to achieve when dyeing fabrics. The tradition stuck and now the color orange is the choice for Theravada Buddhist followers in Southeast Asia, while maroon is the color for Tibetan monks. The robes themselves symbolize simplicity and detachment of materialism. The orange chakra is associated with the Sacrum and genitals.

Green is the color of balance and growth. The smooth tumbled green Tourmaline below reflect the fresh richness of the color. Harmonious Tourmaline aids in creating synergy with earth, and in relationships. It is used as an energy cleanser, and promotes self confidence as it diminishes fear. Bringing this color into the home evokes the fresh air feeling of bringing nature indoors. The color green is associated with the heart chakra.

Blue improves concentration and mental clarity.  It is the color of the sky and sea. Both linked to soothing serenity. It is a good color to aid in meditation and relaxation. It is known as a color of trust, peace. Blue is associated with the Throat Chakra. Wearing stones of blue such as Lapis Lazuli or Kyanite assist in opening the channels for freedom of expression. The provocative photo below taken from the web, portrays a very fine example of blue and pink. Masculine. Feminine. Blue. Pink.

Pink represents unconditional love and nurturing. It triggers giddiness and femininity.  The stones below are Rose Quartz. The stone for inducing self love, respect and nurturing. They are soothing and calming when held or worn. Rose Quartz is a wonderful meditation stone. As you can see by soaking up the visual, the softly hued pink color calms the mind, mood and environment, if living in it. I recently chose this tone for a room to add soft warmth and a glow. Painting a room can create a calming space in which to dwell. Like a glow. Just like a Pink Himalayan Sea Salt light.

Pink Himalayan salt benefits include a detoxification to the body or relaxing cramped muscles if used in a bath.  This natural crystal salt has gained much popularity in most recent time here in our country. There are 83 trace minerals found in Himalayan salt which are extremely rare to find in food. The salts are mined from 200 hundred-year-old sea beds completely free of heavy metals and other toxins which appear in sea salts harvests from the oceans of today.  Do not confuse your mind with traditional salt. Himalayan sea salt has very strong healing qualities not found in the latter. Drinking it with water will actually assist in keeping your adrenal glands intact, and prevents dysfunction. I’ve lived it. This was an amazing antidote, but what I recently discovered was even a more powerful experience!

SALTANA CAVE

The Saltana Himalayan Salt Cave Spa in Ridgefield, Connecticut blew me completely away. Entering the space (white socks only), one becomes submerged in this glowing room radiating with energy unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.  http://saltanacave.com   You will be audio guided with an introduction. Three inches of deep loosely poured salt on to the floor, as you lie in a gravity-less lounge chair. You can submerge yourself into this cotton candy like room, and will want to go back again for more. I felt like went into another zone. You can read all about the true experience by clicking the link above. Saltana Salt Cave imported tons and tons of Pink Himalayan Sea salt and created a healing haven. Euphoric is how I felt upon leaving this unique space.

THE MAJESTY OF PURPLE

February’s Muse. Purple. The color of imagination and all things creative. Ruler of the Crown Chakra. Purple combines stimulating red with the calming stability of blue. The color purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, creativity, mystery, independence and magic – all wrapped up into one beautiful, majestic color.  Amethyst is the gemstone and the birthstone of the month of February. It is a very powerful and protective stone with an unusually high vibration. It guards against psychic attack-transmuting that energy into love. This stone is a natural tranquilizer and blocks negative energies.

Amethyst has strong healing and cleansing powers, enhancing spiritual awareness. This stone is one of my favorites. I’ve used them in many different Nymph designs, and enjoy watching the beauty of the stone find its rightful new owners. The stone has dual properties. It can stimulate a stagnant mind or calm an overactive one, whichever is called for.  The magnificent geode below is shown against two 18k gold necklaces with multi-colored Tourmaline stones. As you can see, the color purple below is a vision of intense beauty. Amethyst exudes a sense of royalty placed near the richness of the gold beads.

The color purple was worn by the Roman magistrate, and became the imperial color worn by the rulers of the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, then later worn by Catholic bishops. In Japan, the color is traditionally associated with the Emperor.

This luxurious color is associated with royalty, magic and mystery. When combined with pink, the color purple is associated with eroticism, femininity and seduction. Don’t you need some Amethyst in your life? We all can use a boost from purple and Amethyst. Visit Nymph Jewels and check out this month’s regal gemstone. Don’t see anything you like? I will design a custom piece for you.

Wishing you a splendid rest of the winter season. I’d love to hear from you and your feedback on this blog post.

Yours in joy & style,

The Sparkle & Splendor of April

April flutters into the wings of change. With it, spring arrives, along with a bevy of other natural things we anxiously await. Such as flooding daylight, flowers, birds chirping, bees buzzing and bugs singing. Nature awakes, and so do our souls.  Did you know that the word April means to open or bud,in Latin? This month we all re awaken from our long deep sleep. Here comes my photo of the Pussy Willow. A sure sign of hope and optimism of all the nature to come.

IMG_7241_2April is tricky. It’s warm, then we feel like we have reverted back to hibernation as the rain sets in, but it is indeed a slow positive climb upward! Drops of rain bring a meditative state of mind, cleansing of the inner spirit, and overall relaxed feeling to embrace what is.

Screen Shot 2014-08-31 at 9.19.06 PMThose born in April can celebrate not only their birthdays, but their birthstone! Everyone wants one. Everyone would love to receive one. What are they?  Diamonds. Their optical properties are simple. It’s all about the 4 Cs.. the carat, cut, color, and clarity. But I am not selling diamonds here, exactly. I am here to share the healing properties, and some of the pave ( paved) diamond jewels from Nymph.  I love this abstract photo directly below.

Screenshot 2015-04-14 18.51.59This April birthstone, the Diamond, is a symbol of purity. It bonds relationships bringing love and clarity into partnership. We can talk about the husband and wife bonding over this stone, and the longevity of relationship and it being the sign of commitment, that is, on the traditional level and it is so.  Diamond has been a symbol of wealth for thousands of years and is one of the stones creating manifestation, and attracting abundance. Traditionally, the photo below personifies this cut of the magical Diamond.

Screenshot 2015-04-14 18.58.03There is no doubt, that diamonds have been a wealth symbol for thousands of years. Like it or not. It is an amplifier of energy, and one of the very few stones that doesn’t need  recharging. It increases the energy of what ever it comes into contact with. Diamonds clear emotional and mental pain. It reduces fear, and brings about new beginnings. May I simply circle back to what APRIL is all about. New beginnings! Like it or not. Letting go of what’s not working in your life. Don’t fear. Letting go allows for the New to enter what ever that may be. It’s the unknown that freezes us most of the time, I kid you not.

Starburst? Sunburst? Pave (paved) diamonds rule this triple strand Green Tourmaline adornment. The symbol recognizes its glory and shows it off here, in a splendid form.  It is rich, regal and stately. The Diamonds show off the wonderful celestial shape, as the earthy green tourmalines  imbue their hues and tones in the light.

Below are 12mm pave diamond discs, delightfully dangling from 18k gold ear wires. These splendid stones shine in the dark, dazzle the eye and will make all women happy to be alive, if given as a gift.

IMG_3976One more unique show and tell here with the following photograph. I LOVE these!  Just another variety of the coveted diamond.. Diamond Slices!

IMG_2926 Natural diamonds slices offer a very clear view of their inclusions, telling a “story” about each one. Associated with romance and love, these little stones reflect white light and are highly clearing. Dear April born people! You are so lucky to have diamonds as your birthstone! Potently Purple

And here we are in the hearty midst of a wintery February. The weather has been more severe and intense than in years past, creating a good time to go within, hibernate and have fun with the laziness of it all.  Using  this time to wake up and smell the snow., really see what is around us, and in my case, I nearly missed its beauty. The mighty Cardinal.  Announcing its masculinity via color, presence and pride. Sorry about the fuzzy photo, taken through the window.IMG_7424

This blog post is really about the intensity and the message through the color purple. I now introduce to you, an exotic bird, that I would love to have seen amidst the newly fallen snow, knowning they exist, but simply not in these parts! Feast your eyes on this one!Screenshot 2015-02-17 19.44.02

PURPLE has many personalities. It is the combination of blue and red. With a sense of mystic and royal qualities, purple is often popular and well liked by creative or eccentric types. This is the color of spirituality and imagination. Purple is an introspective color, allowing us to get in touch with our deeper thoughts. A perfect time of year for this, especially in the hibernating mode we are in this winter. Purple promotes harmony of the mind and the emotions, contributing to mental balance and stability and peace of mind. Purple does have power, and creates a very strong statement, in a room, or on the body.Screenshot 2015-02-18 08.59.46These powerful brushstrokes, while inspiring, command strong attention to their movement. The color evokes creativity. The stately bathroom below adds just the right amount pigment altering the importance of this wonderful room. It becomes more than just a place to bathe. Following below this room of grandeur, you’ll see how this magnificent color transforms and add pizazz to any room, especially when combined with neutrals.Screenshot 2015-02-18 09.00.21 In this case, tones of charcoal and white. Purple commands attention, but at the same time it can inspire the creative soul within. Simply a delight to be surrounded by. This room peronsifies a very modern look, but the color works well in a vintage or antique setting as well.

The month of February is all about purple. It’s birthstone is Amethyst. Stone of transformation. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed Amethyst would ward off the intoxicating powers of Bacchus, and keep the wearer clear headed and quick witted. I have also learned that Amethyst has been found in ancient Egyptian tombs as an aid for one’s journey to the afterlife. Wow. This stone also helps the wearer release stress, grief, depression and emotional repair. If you feel that your mind body and spirit are not aligned, this is the stone for you! We all go through it at one point or another.

February’s Birthstone:

Below is an intoxifying single strand, hand knotted Amethyst necklace with a Tahitian pearl and citrine accent. Predominently purple stones boast this 24″ piece.  This stone is known to promote love and the divine, giving insights into its true nature, encouraging selflessness and spiritual wisdom.

IMG_4153The necklace below is a clear crystal quartz “chain” in sterling silver with bold amethyst clusters. Worn on the nape of the neck, or twisted to the side to encompass both Purple stones. Hence, the little trio and  the singular faceted irregular shaped stone, highlighted by diamonds. Offering a halo effect of brilliance surrounding this beautiful stone. This piece is approximately 32″ in length.

IMG_4147

Egyptian inspiration below, are thick slivers of smooth amethyst “chards” separated by sterling silver beads. Very organic. This hugs the neck as a Cleopatra piece. It lies gracefully, and will dance on the skin as you move. All 3 of these pieces are available at MATSU.  I guarantee, once you handle one of these pieces, they will sing on your skin and enlighten your heart.

Purple Nutrition:

The power of purple food; regal in color, purple-hued foods truly deliver royal health benefits. This group includes vegetables like red onions and eggplant, fruits such as blackberries, Concord grapes, currants, and plums. Purple indicates the presence of anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that protect blood vessels and preserve healthy skin. You can also find vitamin A and flavonoids in purple vegetables like radicchio, purple cabbage, purple potatoes, and purple carrots. Powerul, lucsious and healthy.picstitch-4

The Eggplant:

Aubergine is up next showing off a before and after image. Including a “loose” recipe. I don’t measure. I just go by instinct. The ingredients vary depending on what I have on hand, and whether or not to add fennel, grape tomatoes, mushrooms, or what ever I feel like. The basis is always the same, and no, I do not soak eggplant with salt. I find it becomes too salty, even after giving it a good rinse, so I have omitted this step all together. Using these spices, I discovered the soaking step isn’t needed.

Ingredient list: Olive oil, crushed black pepper, crushed salt, minced shallot, 1 large one, about 6 cloves of garlic also minced, oregano, basil, perhaps some rosemary. Bake at 350. Done!  Feel free to eat the rainbow, they all have benefits. Becoming concious of nutrients via color, you are guaranteed to have your body absorb exactly what it needs. Happy Cooking!
