Smile Inducing Spring

As the month of March quietly passes through, we experience cooler temperatures again, powerful winds, and even an unexpected snow storm! We’ve endured four seasons within this one month. Life is not boring in this climate. As the weather acts up and dances through the month, signs of the awakening from the dormancy of Winter begin to poke through the ground. Plants eager to sprout, baby animals coming out of hibernation, and birds of all kinds, including the Robin, which I have seen have returned to their New England roost. We welcome longer and brighter days with open arms.

The month of March is the link between winter and spring. We think about fluffy little chicks, delicate pale colored tulips and how about after dinner mints! We begin shopping for lighter tones, in contrast to the Fall and Winter months when we gravitate towards deeper saturated ones, as well as jewel tones. These darker colors seem to provide a blanket of protection on our bodies. Spring, on the other hand, presents all sorts of colors that resemble the spring awakening of Earth. The newly sprouted fresh greens, baby birds hatching out from their shells. A Pastel palette begins to shed soft tones as we welcome the arrival of Spring.  Pale mint, pinks, yellows and greens are all examples of these tones.  The palette is soft, feminine and pleasant to the eye, opening our hearts for the new season embarking upon with the promise of warmer days ahead.

Color is light, and light is energy.  Color can stimulate, and excite us. It can also have a tranquil, calming peaceful effect.  The softer hues of pastels bring forth freshness and emerging energy from earth. These colors combined with neutrals create a feeling of sophistication and earthiness. You can’t help but feel happy. This is the time of the year for rebirth, renewal and rejuvenation.  There is also something very child inducing to these beautiful tones. Pick up a piece of chalk, and feel the sensation in your fingers. The results of playing with pastels either on textured paper or even a random sidewalk is freeing.  In allowing your fingers to move effortless, you are tapping  into your inner child. The sensations provoked are worth the experiment!

PASTELS

Updating your wardrobe once Spring hints can be a daunting task. Never mind the cost of replacing your fall-winter attire for lighter fabrics, there is this sudden urge to don lighter tones as well. All is not lost. Don’t fret! Introducing shots of pastels into your palette is easy. It can be done via scarves, clothing and even jewelry. Developing a collection within your wardrobe can create a fascinating and updated look. Majestic Filatures is a great label that offers just that. As the brand Ambassador in shop at Bloomingdale’s, I thought a descriptive was in order.  The Majestic  linens and lighter weight fabrics are offered in a bevy of tones that can easily be incorporated into your existing wardrobe for day and night. I can show you how. I am in Bloomingdale’s 4 days a week. My contact information is always available to you. The new Spring collection is scheduled to arrive this coming week. Take a peek below. You can see some neutrals, gentle brush stroke stripes and pops of color. This is a perfect example of how to incorporate these softer tones into your wardrobe now.  I suggest that you consciously begin to allow the ever so popular and over worn “color” black to fade from your daily wardrobe. Yes it is easy, but it’s not only boring if not worn with textures to create interest. Black also absorbs all sorts of energies you come in contact with. The feeling may be subtle or you may hardly notice, but hark… it’s there and can be draining from your own entire energy source. Hence, wearing pastels with other tones can begin to alter your seasonal wardrobe.  If you’re still uncertain how, I invite you to come into Bloomingdales, and I can help. Alternatively, we can set up a one-on-one private session. It is liberating and a very sensible investment. Working with your existing wardrobe first is a great place to start! No time like NOW.

HEALING GEMSTONES

If you wish to experience the energy of pastels, another option is through gemstones. I’ve just completed a unique one of a kind Talisman necklace using a fairly large Rose Quartz druzy stone, surrounded by a halo of diamonds, all of which are suspended from a hefty rustic looking sterling silver cable link chain.

An instant click will bring you to the page with complete descriptions, pricing and ordering ability. This could the moment I announce Aquamarine, the birthstone of March, instead however, I prefer to share with you another new piece of jewelry which reminds me of tiny fluffy chicks. Although I am referring to a brilliant yet subtle colored stone, this Rutilated Quartz necklace is perfect for Spring as an accent for your wardrobe. This piece is versatile enough to wear all year round, but exudes freshness to me.  The brilliant accent stones muted in the back ground remind me of Easter eggs. Love this piece!

Before I embark on food, I wanted to share another piece that I simply love. The Baroque pearl is upfront, and the whispering tourmalines are but an echo lying quietly in the background. How utterly romantic! Take a look below.  Pure, demure and shy. Pearls are wonderful to bring about new beginnings, as are diamonds. Spring exudes exactly this! As nature begins to sprout, color becomes more important in our lives. The dormancy of winter is dissipating, as the pastels begin to shoot up. You’ve heard me time and time again discuss the life that stones carry from earth. This is why they are healing when worn or held. The outcome can be profound. I love creating these pieces of healing art adornments for the body.

February’s Muse

Without Winter, there is no Spring. True winter showed up late this season. Current status. My long awaited snow storm finally arrived  in full mode.  Somehow, as I’ve grown more mature in my skin and environment, I look forward to the peaceful nuances that accompany this season.  We have a choice to move away from it, or to embrace it. I choose to embrace it. I’m inspired by many opportunities and effects from the weather. It calms, soothes and relaxes our over stimulated minds. To embrace the cold is courageous. Discovering nuances within it is an alternative mode in thinking. We experienced a Full Snow Moon Eclipse this week. See photo below with description taken from the web.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE COLOR SPECTRUM & THE IMPORTANCE OF CHAKRAS

Now we shift the topic to other aspects of February, such as the month’s Birthstone – Amethyst, and the color purple – the creative stone. Need a spark? This is the stone. Feeling a void in your life?  Are you experiencing  stagnancy? The rich hues and the energy of Amethyst are stimulating, and can enhance your inner visions.  I love color and purple is among my favorites. Check out my purple board on Pinterest. I’ve written extensively about purple in past blog posts.

There are many approaches to color and how they can effect you emotionally, physically and mentally. Yes, we feel color. Color indeed stimulates the brain. The warm side of the spectrum inspires passion, fire, assertiveness and stimulation.  The cooler side, such as blues, greens and purples can calm and provide a sense of serenity.

Have you ever realized that you’ve been drawn directly to a specific color? This is one way color affects our emotions. Some colors simply feel good. Others do not. It’s a personal preference. The influence of color dates back to ancient Egypt, India and Greece.

Chakras are centers of energy found in everyone, and these centers receive, transform and distribute that energy throughout the body. Chakras play an important part in our physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Although purple and Amethyst are associated with February, so is red because of Valentine’s Day, hearts and candy. In Ayurvedic medicine, the color red is a grounding hue representing passion, danger, power, determination, desire and love. Red is the Root Chakra, at the base of the spine.  Yellow is a color for power and ego, associated with the Solar Plexus, or navel are below the chest. Orange is the combination of sultry red and joyful yellow. Orange is associated with sunshine, the tropics and spirituality. Worn by Buddhist monks  for many centuries, it was an easy color to achieve when dyeing fabrics. The tradition stuck and now the color orange is the choice for Theravada Buddhist followers in Southeast Asia, while maroon is the color for Tibetan monks. The robes themselves symbolize simplicity and detachment of materialism. The orange chakra is associated with the Sacrum and genitals.

Green is the color of balance and growth. The smooth tumbled green Tourmaline below reflect the fresh richness of the color. Harmonious Tourmaline aids in creating synergy with earth, and in relationships. It is used as an energy cleanser, and promotes self confidence as it diminishes fear. Bringing this color into the home evokes the fresh air feeling of bringing nature indoors. The color green is associated with the heart chakra.

Blue improves concentration and mental clarity.  It is the color of the sky and sea. Both linked to soothing serenity. It is a good color to aid in meditation and relaxation. It is known as a color of trust, peace. Blue is associated with the Throat Chakra. Wearing stones of blue such as Lapis Lazuli or Kyanite assist in opening the channels for freedom of expression. The provocative photo below taken from the web, portrays a very fine example of blue and pink. Masculine. Feminine. Blue. Pink.

Pink represents unconditional love and nurturing. It triggers giddiness and femininity.  The stones below are Rose Quartz. The stone for inducing self love, respect and nurturing. They are soothing and calming when held or worn. Rose Quartz is a wonderful meditation stone. As you can see by soaking up the visual, the softly hued pink color calms the mind, mood and environment, if living in it. I recently chose this tone for a room to add soft warmth and a glow. Painting a room can create a calming space in which to dwell. Like a glow. Just like a Pink Himalayan Sea Salt light.

Pink Himalayan salt benefits include a detoxification to the body or relaxing cramped muscles if used in a bath.  This natural crystal salt has gained much popularity in most recent time here in our country. There are 83 trace minerals found in Himalayan salt which are extremely rare to find in food. The salts are mined from 200 hundred-year-old sea beds completely free of heavy metals and other toxins which appear in sea salts harvests from the oceans of today.  Do not confuse your mind with traditional salt. Himalayan sea salt has very strong healing qualities not found in the latter. Drinking it with water will actually assist in keeping your adrenal glands intact, and prevents dysfunction. I’ve lived it. This was an amazing antidote, but what I recently discovered was even a more powerful experience!

SALTANA CAVE

The Saltana Himalayan Salt Cave Spa in Ridgefield, Connecticut blew me completely away. Entering the space (white socks only), one becomes submerged in this glowing room radiating with energy unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.  http://saltanacave.com   You will be audio guided with an introduction. Three inches of deep loosely poured salt on to the floor, as you lie in a gravity-less lounge chair. You can submerge yourself into this cotton candy like room, and will want to go back again for more. I felt like went into another zone. You can read all about the true experience by clicking the link above. Saltana Salt Cave imported tons and tons of Pink Himalayan Sea salt and created a healing haven. Euphoric is how I felt upon leaving this unique space.

THE MAJESTY OF PURPLE

February’s Muse. Purple. The color of imagination and all things creative. Ruler of the Crown Chakra. Purple combines stimulating red with the calming stability of blue. The color purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, creativity, mystery, independence and magic – all wrapped up into one beautiful, majestic color.  Amethyst is the gemstone and the birthstone of the month of February. It is a very powerful and protective stone with an unusually high vibration. It guards against psychic attack-transmuting that energy into love. This stone is a natural tranquilizer and blocks negative energies.

Amethyst has strong healing and cleansing powers, enhancing spiritual awareness. This stone is one of my favorites. I’ve used them in many different Nymph designs, and enjoy watching the beauty of the stone find its rightful new owners. The stone has dual properties. It can stimulate a stagnant mind or calm an overactive one, whichever is called for.  The magnificent geode below is shown against two 18k gold necklaces with multi-colored Tourmaline stones. As you can see, the color purple below is a vision of intense beauty. Amethyst exudes a sense of royalty placed near the richness of the gold beads.

The color purple was worn by the Roman magistrate, and became the imperial color worn by the rulers of the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, then later worn by Catholic bishops. In Japan, the color is traditionally associated with the Emperor.

This luxurious color is associated with royalty, magic and mystery. When combined with pink, the color purple is associated with eroticism, femininity and seduction. Don’t you need some Amethyst in your life? We all can use a boost from purple and Amethyst. Visit Nymph Jewels and check out this month’s regal gemstone. Don’t see anything you like? I will design a custom piece for you.

Wishing you a splendid rest of the winter season. I’d love to hear from you and your feedback on this blog post.

Yours in joy & style,

January 2017 Anew

Celebration brings happiness, glee and joy. Welcoming the New Year, 2017, with open hearts reflecting its very feeling. The prospect of fresh ideas and possibilities which lie ahead provide positive attitude and hope. The new moon brings about new beginnings. We open our souls to what can be. We open our minds to alternative thoughts which we may not ever consider. Living in possibility means that we can approach life from a different perspective than what we may be in the habit of, or accustomed to. The Moon has several phases. Some people are sensitive to the point of actually feeling them. We are in the First Quarter at this time. Or at least we were, when I began this post. This month is flying by – despite the frigid weather we are experiencing.  I have fallen in love with this notion, surprisingly, as I’ve grown older.

The blanket of snow that fell the other night was like an angel appearing from the skies above. The peace and quiet that resulted in the weather was such a gift. Listening to the quiet drop like a feather blanket in the dark on Saturday night brought delight to my soul. The message was loud and clear, if given the chance to really quiet the mind and absorb the messages from above. Such peace and possibility. I now realize why I love the four seasons; winter brings a strong message to me.  At mid-month, the Full Wolf Moon appeared on January 12, at 6:38 am EST. All Full Moons culminate all things new, as we build our dreams and goals for the year 2017. Mesmerizing. Especially to wake up to the moon, as the sun creeps rising from the opposite side of earth.

I saw this poignant message today. It resonated. January is a wonderful month to begin this little exercize. Don’t be scared. It will help you learn more about yourself, calm your inner soul as well as stimulate the untapped within.

For me, 2017 means discovering the pleasures and nuances of spending time alone.

Living with Red in January

Let’s talk about January’s birthstone. Garnet. Derived from their Latin name granatum… meaning “seed of the pomegranite”, garnet obviously references the color of this fruit. Garnet inspires love and devotion. It balances the sex drive and alleviates emotional disharmony. Deep red garnet stimulates the controlled rise of kundalini energy and aids sexual potency. Garnet clears negative Chakra energy and is very useful to wear in times of crises. It activates and strengthens the survival instinct, bringing courage and hope to bleak situations. My pic stitch above reflects four different pieces of healing gemstones from Nymph. http://www.nymphjewels.com/shop and here is the link to the entire collection I’ve uploaded thus far. The deep rich tones of these garnet stones are captivating.  Below are “lentil” garnets, slightly faceted combined with the rarely seen Tanzanite ( periwinkle) and a huge Herkimer Diamond.  Another gem using garnet.

I’ve paired translucent rutilated quartz with garnets because of the contrast between the two stones. It allows your mind to rest from the juxtapositioning of the deep hues and light. It also represents clarity which I wrote about at length last January. (http://davamuramatsu.com/clarify-your-mind-body-soul/)

Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. It is emotionally a very intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate and raises blood pressure. Enthusiasm enhancement. Red is the color for the base or root chakra. This chakra is located at the base of the spine and allows us to be grounded and connect to the universal energies. Groundedness, trust, and belonging lessen feelings of mistrust. Gemstones that will aid the Root chakra include lodestone, ruby, garnet, smokey quartz, obsidian, hematite and onyx.  Red is described as warm, vibrant and intense. It is an exciting and daring color, but also evokes the feelings of love and comfort. Grab your attention red – the reason it is used in traffic signage and for fire trucks.

Drinking this color with your eyes, is very stimulating. Drinking red wines are a healthy way to get the antioxidants in the body. Eating red foods, same thing. Regardless of the intake, it embues the sense of heightened awareness and of importance.  Digesting red foods – the new powerhouse of nutrition. Strawberries, beets, rasperries, the list is emense. Eating by color. Red foods are packed with a variety of pwoerful antioxidants. They have been shown to help fight cancer and heart disease. Peppers, cranberries, pomegranante, cherries, and red skinned potatoes are some of the red foods to try. Let’s not forget tomatoes. I made a salad just the other day using both strawberries and tomatoes. At first I thought it was odd to mix strawberries and the tomatoes, but with the baby romaine, and the tuna salad with ample celery, and my home made dressing, it was deliciously balanced.

January is the month to begin your new regime. What do YOU want for yourself in 2017?  It all begins with YOU. We have heard this so many times. It’s time to SHOW UP fully. How would you like the world around you to perceive you? Your image is frontal. It’s what people see upon their first glance. I don’t care if it’s a lazy Saturday morning, and you need to run out of the house for milk. SHOW UP. Take an extra measure for your hair, makeup – even just a touch. You never know who you will meet! I often tell clients that change can happen as often from the outside in, as from the inside out. Don’t deprive yourself of the elements you need to create an impression, which gives you a presence – especially for yourself!

So don’t wait to buy the scarf you love or the earrings or the purse if that color is speaking to you. Your soul is begging you to have it. If you deprive yourself of that notion, scarcity sets in and you will spiral downward into a place where you stop caring. If you don’t care, no one else will care. You’ll be sending a negative message to all those you meet, and yourself, about your lack of self-worth.

2017: Live Fully. Live with Intention. Live Joyfully. When your heart soars as a result, your contagious energy will spread all over. Watch for the perpetual energy you’ve created!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey. Please share yours with me! I’d love to hear from you.

Always in joy and style,

The Vibrancy of June

And so it is. Awakening each morning for yoga class to the hints of sizzling sunshine, longer days, refreshing evenings, and even an early cricket or more! I’ve heard them and thought – something must be off. Not really sure, I’m thinking it might be a figment of my imagination. The month of June is a bright month. Associated words can be Summer Solstice, BBQ, weddings, graduations, reunions, heat, sizzle, oh, let’s not foget about the birthstone of the month; pearls. You know I wouldn’t leave those out!  My brain is ruled by color and gemstones. The piece below is a very summery necklace boasting tiny natural turquoise stones, and a Baroque pearl focal pendant. The golden tone in the back is – of course- Citrine, brings to you,  energy from the sun, abundance and warmth… an accent to the cool watery turquoise, and the volutptuous pearl.

IMG_8914

Allow me to speak of the myth and folklore accompanying the cricket. So I’ve heard, that if a cricket decides to visit you inside your abode, with it comes good luck. DO not kill it. This would be a bad thing. It’s been known to bring ill fortune to those that rid of a cricket. This sprite insect has connections to happiness and good cheer, protecting you from bad spirits. The crickets found in North America are generally black in color, and mostly a nocturnal insect. This connects them to the dreamtime, intuition and psychic abilities. Their long antennas give them a heightened sense reminding us to trust our intuition, higher knowlege and guidance. Trusting what you have always believed is just a reminder that this creature and create. When you hear the Cricket’s song, it is a reminder of hapiness in relationships. … excerpt from Universal Sky.  And as skies go, last night’s was no exception.  The Summer Solstice, June 20, 2016 just so happened to have had an additionalScreen Shot 2016-06-08 at 7.12.44 PM

Solar treat last night, for the first time in 70 years. The Full Moon blessed us with her powerful beauty and energy on the Solstice.  This time is an opportunity to tune into your intentions, and what you’d like to manifest in the upcoming months. Emotions may rise to the surface. Physical pain may be heightened. Regardless, this is the perfect time to create more harmony and unity in various areas of life. This excerpt taken from Jill Jardine’s  Full Moon Summer Solstice newsletter It’s loaded with all things solar and astrological. .http://myemail.constantcontact.com/Happy-Full-Moon-Summer-Solstice–Summer-Sun-Sign-Forecast.html?soid=1102157698296&aid=zoOt9jLaC

Screen Shot 2016-06-21 at 6.38.34 PMI’m not sure how many of you feel the aftermath of this potent full moon, but must say, I have. Something provoked me to begin wearing black pearls, and I have never worn them. My intuition led me to placing them on my ears. I love the smooth deep lustre of them. Very mysterious and sensual.       The lore of the pearl. June’s Birthstone.

IMG_9915

These glorious dark pearls are grown in the woarm, clear waters of French Polynesia, by large black lip oysters. Few oysters survive to reproduce a single fine peral. Tahitian pearls are still considered rare, and the most valuable cutlrued pearls in the world.  Interestingly, the Greeks believed the pearls were raindrops that had fallen into an oyster. When Venus or Aphrodite, the goddess of love was born from the sea on an oyster shell, drops of water that dripped off the goddess became pearls. The beauty below is one shot of a multi strand hand strung brass necklace with several Tahitan pearls dancing through out the brass beads. It is secured with a sterling clasp, and accented with a ruby.

The sultry dark tones of these pearls vary. Pearls are associated with purity, innocence and love. They are wonderful organic matter that are connected to the Godess with in, and to connect women with their inner feminity. For more on the pearl, or gemstones and healing jewlery, please visit my website on ETSY. https://www.etsy.com/shop/nymphjewelry    The piece below demonstrates a unique mix, using the Tahitian pearl as a focal point accompanied by the use of garnets, a ruby cluster suspended from oxidized sterling silver wire wrap with oval faceted prasiolite (green amethyst) stones.

Happy Summer, everyone! Enjoy the long days, replenish your souls with all of the sunlight. Eat your vegetables, and please take advantage of the outdoors. It is a short lived season, and it’s been a beauty thus far!

Yours, in splendid summer joy,

The Whisper of Spring

“Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night. “~Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters of Rainer Maria Rilke

“Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!” ~Robin Williams

“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” ~ Margaret Atwood, Bluebeard’s Egg

And here we are. Enjoying these moments of seeing the happy daffodils and crocus peering up through the newly fallen snow. Such a happy site. The past and present culminating at once.

Screen Shot 2016-03-23 at 2.19.35 PM

Energetically, I personally don’t feel as wiped out from the hibernation we never really got due to the unusual winter season we endured. The days seemed longer, the climate certainly milder, the fear of slipping on black ice nearly non existent. I guess it’s a great time to be in New England. Embracing it, and letting go of my own expectations for that dramatic snow storm never experienced. Time to move on! Smell the flowers, embrace the buds sprouting on all of the bushes and trees. What a sight!

IMG_9382

Spring time is also a time of year when we begin to feel stale from the colder months we have just endured. Color is the perfect antidote. Perhaps giving a room a new fresh coat of color can help, a new scarf, a rather juicy piece of new healing gemstone jewelry from Nymph. These are all ideas that will help elevate your soul, not to mention your look and mood. The piece above reflects one of my new Lariat Style Necklaces. I created this for versatility, ease, uniqueness, color and for the healing properties included in each little piece. These are all natural stones. Uncut, not tumbled, just their organic pure selves.

IMG_9430

And there they are. Dancing with delight on their sterling silver chains. They are light, airy, colorful, healing and decorative while creating a statement. The blues are all Fluorite, the Autumnal tones are all various Garnets, and the clear facets are Herkimer Diamonds, the clear ascension stone. All of the above offer healing properties. You may check my Etsy site for details. Also please note. I am working on my own site, and hope to have it up and running soon. But I will share, building a web site is no picnic! It’s tedious and time consuming. I think the rewards will be worth it. I’ll have the ability to offer more than what Etsy limits me to sell. I just need to maintain patience through this along with the daily goals it takes to continue to roll out this site. Stay tuned.

I’d like to thank all that came to support Matsu during the LILITH Trunk Show last weekend. I realize many of you were dying to see this wonderful designer once again, and hadn’t since the Newbury Street location closed a few years back. Ironically, I was approached by another new designer that I discovered while at Coterie, scouting new ideas for fall. We will be holding a SHOSH NEW YORK Pop Up Shot at Matsu in April for 10 days only! Watch for details.  Spring stock  available to purchase.

IMG_2333The look is a bit more relaxed, looser, feminine with a little boy twist, silks, linen, cotton.

I am excited to share this collection with you and hope you can make it down Route 20 into Sudbury for a couple hours or a couple of minutes! Flexible hours enabling you to visit.

Happy Spring 2016! Until we meet again,

I remain yours in joy & style,

Dava

A Trio of Inspiring Journeys

What winter? This season has definitely made it easy for us to move around  in an uninhibited fashion. This rare weather has cooperated with us resulting in less fear around falling icicles or black ice, just to name a few. As a result of this mild winter I’ve been fortunate to experience the ease in traveling. No storms brewing to delay flights etc. The first journey, begins with the New York Gift Show Accent on Design, held in early February. People shop and scout replenishing their empty stores as a result of the Holiday mayhem. They are creating while re inventing their look for the season upcoming. The same holds true for those with e-commerce sites. It’s always a thrill to help these buyers and possibly inspire them to purchase items they may not have known existed before! This is a very creative period for us.

For this season,  we went with a malachite effect on the walls.  The deep green hues were applied in a way that gave the walls an authentic gemstone like effect.  This could  very well become our new signature color. We basically created a 4 day Pop Up shop. Then the tear down. The complete process is a lot of work, but very fun, stimulating  and inspiring – especially seeing  the buyer’s positive feedback. Our wares include hand-made brass table top utensils, seen below, several candle collections, skillfully crafted make up brushes, porcelain cell plates as seen on the top shelf in the rear of the booth, to name a few. I begin to wind down, and travel back to the Boston area once the show is over. Then the processing order time frame begins.
IMG_3587Three days later, I wind up in a place I have promised myself for years to attend. This year I did.

I found myself in 87 degree dry heat amidst the mystical gems of the Tucson Gem Show. The vibration and frequency from this show continues to resonate within me.  I think the crystals were performing their magic! I know I felt it! How could one not?

The single terminated crystal quartz  display below is one of millions shown. These are the most common type of crystal, with a single six-sided point at one end. They are used to charge the chakras or to disperse negative energy. Crystals remain extremely popular for their beauty and therapeutic healing properties. Clear quartz crystals hold the vibration of White Light. As we open our higher chakras we become receptive to that Light and to the crystals that embody it.

IMG_1130On my journey, the next discovery was such an unexpected find. As many of you may know, I have been incorporating Herkimer Diamonds into my collection of Nymph. They are diamond like, due to their natural facets and their clarity. How do they grow? I wondered. What does it look like?

IMG_1077Here, above you can see a large chunk of Earth. The Herkimers have lodged themselves into the crevices of this mass. They are discreetly suspended within the crevice. I have an example of this at MATSU so you can actually see it with your own eyes. Herkimer Diamonds are raw quartz crystals mined in Herkimer, New York. Believed to be nearly 500 million years old, each stone naturally formed with eighteen facets, six sides and two points. The diverse crystal appears with a number of mystical inclusions, adding to their value and character. These stones are ascension stones. They can take you to the highest spiritual vibration possible while still being in your physical body. This stone energizes, enlivens and promotes creativity. Below I show a finished piece of jewelry as an example. From Earth to  body adornment. These beauties swing from 18k gold ear wires. They catch the light with every movement. These are available with many more styles on their way. If interested please contact me!

IMG_8550

The grand finale for me was my acquaintance with this enormous gemstone. Cool to the touch, feeling a sense of security and magic all at the same time, as I hugged this beautiful rock.

IMG_1187Time to go. Heading North by car, it was impossible not to gain sight of the terrain. So different from the East Coast. Dryness, cacti and arid vegetation all over and forever it appeared.  I had the sense that John Wayne or Clint Eastwood were about to gallop out in front of my car on a horse being chased.  To my disappointment, this did not occur. Instead I feasted my eyes on all of the  new scenery and simply enveloped the vegetation. I knew Sedona was near, but it wasn’t until the car seriously approached these majestic mountains that I was completely awestruck. Looking like an oil painting, I had to pinch myself into reality. And, yes it was indeed real. This trip was so inspiring on many fronts. So much beauty, right here in the USA. Before I take you back to

IMG_1332           East Coast reality, please allow me to share this unique dining experience in Sedona. Driving by, my eye caught this amazing rustic structure. It sits high up on a mountain and if that isn’t enough.. the spectacular views from the veranda and dining room makes a creative canvass for the unusual them and menu. MARIPOSA;  A Latin inspired grill captivating nature surrounding the grounds as it also entices the stomach. It was truly a delicious experience. I strongly suggest you visit this or any of Lisa Dahl’s other dining establishments when in Sedona. You may click on the link http://mariposasedona.com for additional information. The food, views, service and hospitality was spectacular. I grew very fond of JB Mariposa’s Maître d’ rather quickly. With arrivals beginning in late July, I chose the hues, shapes, textures and styles for the next season. Ordering 6 months out. I was so excited about the tones I saw. It’s been a while that deep midnight blue has appeared  in fashion. I was delighted to see it in the collections done  by most of the designers I was attracted to. You can expect seeing that tone again at MATSU, in combination with Ochre, Deep Green, Bordeaux, some bright shots of deep Pinks, and finally harmonizing all the tones a deep Charcoal Grey appears. Harmony! Look at the bevy of color below. These scarves are all designed in Paris, made in India. They each tell their own story.ImageOn the Nymph front, I would love to share one of my newest pieces. It’s a locket filled with diamonds! I’ve paired it on a simple sterling silver oxidized chain. The choices are 18 or 32″. A small garnet briolette is the “garnish” accent for this piece. It’s brand new, as I’ve just turned out another collection. Most of it is complete, just waiting for the weather to break so I can shoot outdoors. Do you like it ? It’s royal, rich and brings creativity and enhancing the new directions your goals are to take you.

IMG_8670What would my blog posts be if I didn’t add some nutrition? I made this last night. Salmon in Parchment. The flavors simply melded inside the parchment. Cooked at 375 for about 45 minutes. The original recipe from Martha called for leeks. I thinly sliced leeks, tiny red tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, added fresh tarragon, black Moroccan olives, salt, pepper , olive oil, drizzled white wine, sealed the paper with – staples, and voila! Delicious. All the flavors permeated together and the end result was simply amazing! Served with sautéed okra with garlic and shallots accompanied by wild rice. Yum!

IMG_1609 I started out with a shorter concept, but it kept growing. How can I leave anything out ? I can’t! My goal was to share my experiences with you, and I hope you enjoyed them. I look forward to hearing from you all!

Can’t wait to see you again in my shop once my abbreviated hours are revised. Until then feel free always to give me a call. I am happy to meet you at 92 Boston Post Road, in Sudbury. Here is my number. 617.510.6369

Harvesting the Senses

Hello everyone! As summer winds down, the time is right to observe a slight chill approaching, shorter days and lots of bounty in the food arena. This time of year gives us the opportunity to squeeze in outdoor activities, as we enjoy the lazy hazy hot sizzling summer days dwindle. We have had a glorious Summer, weather wise, certainly no shortage of Vitamin D! These past few days, however, have delivered an edge, with the skies opening right up. The over due down pour is so refreshing. I was able to capture the rain drops on my windshield yesterday, delighted with the results. Not exactly sure what it is that allows concentration to come easier when
IMG_9535the sky reveals clouds, mist, fog and rain rather than the relentless blaring sun. But it does. The time will be here again soon enough, so for now we celebrate the harvest abound. I start with something I can’t recall ever seeing until this trip to Russo’s in Watertown. Such fun! The rich colors are so inviting. What I did withIMG_9531these orange plum tomatoes, is slice and saute’ in olive oil, several cloves of chopped garlic, fresh basil, salt and pepper. It made a wonderful rustic “sauce” served over fresh pasta. Simple. The next recipe I’ve been making several times a week just because tomatoes are addicting this time of year. IMG_5871The photo above reflects a baby heirloom tomato medley, chopped English cucumber, small amount of chopped celery for more texture, capers, lime, cilantro. The “dressing” is nothing but 1/4 cup of olive oil heated with chopped garlic, and my new twist is adding shallot also. It gives the dish a rounder flavor. Squeeze the lime on the vegetables while the heated oil does its thing; run outside to my herb garden, and slice a big bunch of cilantro with scissors; slice it all over the bright contents in the bowl. By now,the
chopped shallots and garlic  pop from the heat in the oil. Let it sit for a few minutes. Add crushed salt and pepper, then pour the oil mixture over the contents in the bowl.. Using salad servers, mix it well. refrigerate. Then pull out at meal time, and snip some fresh chives over it. Delicious!

Late summer boasts Harvesting, and appropriately named, I have concluded my latest collection of jewelry from Nymph. Allow me to introduce HARVEST.ImageThe Moody Blues sang “as the reds, browns, golds of Autumn lie in the gutter dead”; I add greens to this mixture. This collection is not shy of bold color nor pendants. They all feel like talisman to me. Your body will find comfort in these shapes and tones as the energy  speaks to the heart and  root chakras. Above you can see how much I enjoy shooting the gemstones on natural elements usually found in the woods behind my place of dwelling. Some of the pendants are adorned further using the halo treatment of diamonds surrounding the large gemstones.  Above, you’ll see aventurine, hessionite garnet in a couple of pieces ( very autumnal ), tanzanite mixed with citrine, african turquoise mixed with olive wood, holding a very large faceted topaz drop, triple strands of 31″ long brass and sterling silver giving way to the most magnificent rutilated quartz ever and in the center bottom row, is a newly learned stone for me Pietersite- it’s held with hessionite garnet and olive wood. Pietersite is known as the stone of vision. It is also a stone that resembles a thunderstorm bringing cleansing energy to aid one to create change.  Pietersite is known to help make an energetic connection to one’s deeper spiritual inner self. All of the pieces above and any of them from my collection speaks messages, sings tunes, and enlightens the mind and heart. Once you touch – you’ll see exactly what I mean. All are on display now for you to play with at MATSU, 92 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, Ma. 01776. Just call for an appointment. My hours will be back to normal after this coming weekend. Everyone is somewhere, other than here. Traffic differs so much to that of Newbury St back when!

I’d like to complete my post this month with two “events”. The first is by introducing something I’ve been asked to replicate now for years… I did it. In the form of a Candle.! My signature scent will now be available in the form of a soy base candle, poured here in the US., hand packaged in Sudbury, and brought into your life.  60 hour burn time. $58. Available late September. DAVA.Candle1‘d a v a ‘ as appropriately named, you’ll discover once you smell this amazing scent. As described on the box; Hints of sandalwood, exotic spice and fresh air collide to create a rich and earthy fragrance conjuring a sensual and meditative state of mind.

On September 20th, I’ll be holding my first event this Autumn. BOOK SIGNING< READING & SPIRITED DISCUSSION at Matsu, among all of the new merchandise in for fall! If you’d like to read this Memoir written by Diane Fraser, I’ll have it in store for purchase or you can go to Amazon. Growing Up Super Heroes. You will never take anything for granted in your life again. This book is very powerful, and I promise Sunday, September 20th will also be insightful. 11-4. 92 Boston Post Road.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to seeing you in store and at this event very soon.

Yours in joy and style,

Dava

Summer Jubilee in July

Upon the start of  writing this blog post, I heard the soft pitter- patter  of  Summer’s rain, as it hit  the nearby ground and roof surfaces. It’s always a refreshing sense to hear, feel and see amidst the perpetual heat. Nature needs the water, as do our own bodies. As a result of rain, Earth is replenished, blooms flourish. I welcome the grey skies, it gives me permission to relax indoors and go about my chores what ever the bucket list of them is at that time. Sort of like an abbreviated snow day, during this wonderful sunny summer. Still, I feel the calm the rain brings, and simply love it among the misty skies of grey.  On this rainy day,I accidentally happened to have created this design with a water bottle. The little nuances nature provides. Serendipity.FullSizeRenderHad I not been fully present, I would have yanked the Poland Spring bubbly bottle off the counter of slate, placed it back into the fridge and missed this beauty. Note the clear reflections in the distinct shapes of water.

I honestly don’t know what it is about water that  soothes so much. Gentle  harmony, perhaps?

The sounds of a waterfall, the beauty of the brook babbling over small and large rocks, the resonating tone of the ocean waves crashing down upon one another.  We are surrounded by these innate sounds and acts of nature.. which I  especially  notice not living in the city, any more. I find respite from these natural performances. I am not really sure how it is possible,  having type A personality, I can decompress so very quickly at the beach. It never fails to disappoint. Ever!

I share a photo from one of my several excursions this summer on the Plum. Plum Island, that is. It’s a smaller beach than the vast beauty at Crane, in Ipswich, but I rather fancy the intimacy here. The sand is darker and coarser. I leave completely rejuvenated. Always.IMG_8923It is unfortunate, however that the glory of the summer months on the North Shore is rather abbreviated from mid July to nearly mid August. Why?  Beasts of the North East. That’s why. What am I referring to? Greenheads. That’s what.  The ground of salt marsh is springy, sort of like walking on a lumpy trampoline. Water oozes through the tufts of matted grass. Apart from an occasional deer, assorted birds, turtles maybe an otter, the Greenheads dominate this territory. They are very hungry, and their main source of desire is the blood from humans. Not a pleasant situation. They are so determined and can make your vacation a nightmare. Nothing can keep them away. Deet which is one of the primary ingredients in bug spray won’t do the trick either. The stuff is bad enough for your skin, but honestly? It won’t work.Screenshot 2015-07-13 13.47.35Despite the beautiful intense emerald-green head stay away!  Time to head to the beaches on the South Shore. You have been warned.

On a delicious note: Look at the yummy treat I had the privilege of trying this weekend. Small  delectable chunks of parmesan and romano cheeses. Drizzled with honey, and sprinkled with fresh black pepper. Creating this dish is so easy, The longer it sits at room temperature, the more flavor with each bite. Serve with olives, and crusty Italian or French bread. Perhaps even a strawberry.IMG_9012It is such a joy experimenting with the flavors this season has to offer. Colorful berries are bursting with flavor. They just are ready to be picked and served. They really do want to “show off” their magnificent vividness right now. A very dear friend mentioned  of blackberries, and peaches. I took it upon myself to experiment with this colorful contrast and created a salad. I added baby arugula, mozzarella balls and fresh chives. Look at this beautiful bounty. I substituted white balsamic for red wine vinegar. IMG_9027A lovely, light, yet provocative vinaigrette.  Using Country Style Dijon, salt, pepper, and 1/3 cup olive oil that I had sautéed with fresh chopped shallots. These little devils simply swam in the olive oil on high, the moment they began to burst, I removed from the heat. In the mixer, goes the mustard, about 5 tablespoons of vinegar, salt, pepper, a dash of oregano. Then whisk in the olive oil permeated with shallots.IMG_9022 Doesn’t the golden color look inviting?  This salad dressing is light and can be used on a bevy of summer dishes.

The next photo reflects a tomato dish that I created last summer, and each time I make it, there is another revision. Cooking to me is rather like painting. It’s all about how I feel at that given moment, for what will predominate the dish. This one has oodles of chopped in half Cherub tomatoes in red and golden-yellow, chopped celery, chopped English cucumber, chopped fresh chives, capers, ground lemon rind from the whole lemon. The “dressing” is nothing but olive oil, once again with chopped garlic this time. I heat about 1/4 cup of olive oil, chop about 5 garlic cloves finely, and then heat it all. Once again, as the garlic begins to dance with the heat, in the pan, I pull from the burner. The results, I have discovered, are best when refrigerating upon finish, then pulling out about 30 minutes before you are ready to serve. Gorgeous!IMG_9033As we meander through mid summer, which I’d rather not end, find myself having to tolerate the sounds of the low humming compressor from all air conditioners everywhere I go. I don’t like them, use them or need it. I do look forward to air peace. The constant drone of the noise drives me utterly crazy. It fills my head with noise, and causes irritability. I  regretfully  admit.  Yes, perhaps that noise and the Greenheads are my biggest complaint about the summer months.  Hark! I peer outside my window in the evening, then run outdoors briefly to join the Fireflies. Any temporary discomfort I tune into,  fade as I dance amidst their magnificent symphonic light.  Mid Summer’s Night Dream: Fire Flies in July.Screenshot 2015-07-13 21.34.40

I do look forward to crisp air.  In my industry, July is the last of relaxation, in a sense, since it’s the precursor to Autumn.  Several capsule collections will be in store by end of August, beginning September. I truly am excited about this. Woman can not survive on gems alone. They certainly help, however in more ways than just one. A verbal tease of what’s to come; Rich Edwardian Velvet from Lilith, Sexy embellished bags from Jamin Puech, architectural taffeta from Matthildur, deep jewel tones from Majestic, frivolity from Lunn, to name a few. The photo below represents a piece from Icelandic designer, Matthildur. Just love her wearable taffeta fabrics! Her designs and fabrics really are movement inspiring.Screenshot 2015-07-13 15.13.44

I’ve been busy designing jewelry this summer. In my past blog journey posts, I usually discuss the stone of the month, this one being Ruby; July’s birthstone. However, we all know how in love with rubies I am, but I felt the urge to share something new. Upon several personal requests from clients, I am pleased to announce an edition to Nymph: Herkimer Diamond earrings. See description below.Herkimer Diamond EarringsIMG_6718These earrings are suspended on an 18k gold ear wire. They measure approximately 1/2″. As stated above, no two are alike, but I have calibrated the pair to become one in harmony with each other.
Herkimer Diamonds are actually crystal quartz, but their facets unique. They imbue the sense of diamonds. These raw quartz crystals are mined exclusively in Herkimer County, NY. They are believed to be nearly 500 million years old, each stone has naturally formed with eighteen facets, six sides, and two points (double terminated). While they are not actually diamonds, they earned this nickname for their diamond-like shapes. The diverse crystals come with a number of mystical inclusions, which add to their value and character. Each stone is uniquely formed.  Herkimer Diamonds are ascension stones; they will take you to the highest spiritual vibration possible while still being in your physical body. This stone energizes, enlivens and promotes creativity. They enhance telepathy, and memory. Herkimer Diamond is a detoxification stone. If you click on the link above the photo, it will take you directly to the site to purchase. You can also find them at my shop, MATSU. Check Facebook for summer hour revisions. IMG_8828

The little lace frock shown above is a wonderful accessory to wear over just about anything. It’s cropped swing shape is flattering. I truly look forward to sharing the Capsule Collections I have on order, which will begin to appear late August. From Lilith, I fell in love with this Edwardian Blue Velvet series, Matthildur has  ( Icelandic designer formerly ELM )designed a charming collection of wearable clothing offering ease and elegance in taffeta, and jerseys. Fresh from France, Jamin Puech never comes short in their signature embellishment styles in handbags, Majestic brought back bordeaux, which thrills me. Just to name a few  designers  I can’t wait for you all to experience these lush fabrics and unique designs in person, in MATSU coming this Autumn.

Please feel free to call for a private showing. I am also happy to offer hosting a party for you and your intimate friends at the shop. We can create something unique. I will be offering events, this fall. Stay tuned.

Enjoy this beautiful weather.

I hope you have enjoyed this journey, designed for you!

Yours in joy,

Dava

Glory of the Garnet & Beauty of the Beet

Here we are, January 2015! How did this happen? Filled with new ideas, new goals and bucket lists of wishes we’d be thrilled to accomplish in order to move ourselves ahead in a positive direction. New recipes, perhaps, joining a new gym or yoga studio, maybe travel is in the cards. The fleeting envy is sometimes tough to shake, when I see my friends and acquaintances in photos in far away places with nothing but aqua waters and blue skies as a backdrop.  I realize it’s not the time for me to have this escape from the bitter cold. Not yet anyway. Resultingly, I redirect my energy to generate and create a haven within my home, boutique and life  as I prepare a positive spin for the year ahead.

Candles and their warm moving glow are my recipe for love and life. They soothe and calm the psyche. The candle’s radiance and flames can transform the ambience in any room. These mercury crown votives are one example of lighting up your life. $27.00 for the set.IMG_6989

Another notion and concept in lighting up your life, is with our Celestial Candles. 60 hour burn time, soy base and delectible to the nose! Sun, Star, Full Moon, and Crescent Moon.

These beauties are hand poured, packaged and include a beautiful Rumi poem in each box. The candles are $30 each, available at MATSU.

It’s no mistake that the appropriate birthstone of the month, Garnet, basks in its own glory of deep warm hues of red. This powerful, reinvigorating and regenerating stone cleanses and reenergizes the Chakras. Isn’t that really what January is about?  Replenishing our  inner well? Garnet revitalizes, purifies and balances energy, bringing serenity and passion. Yes, Garnet inspires devotion and love. It balances the sex drive and alleviates emotional disharmony. Red Garnet indeed aids sexual potency. This stone brings courage, creative energy, vitality, abundance, flow and awareness. Below you will see a bevy of gemstones from my NYMPH collection, portraying different colors of the Garnet. Ranging from the color of a pomegranate seed, to a rich glass of bordeaux. These necklaces are available now at MATSU.

IMG_0786

I love integrating colors through lifestyle. Gemstones are alive. Little jewels from Earth, each with a story of their own. Foods also hold the power to heal and prevent negative things from entering the body. A compliment to the sassy garnets, are beets. One of the richest red foods that exist. The deeper the color of food, the stronger the antioxidants they  hold.  Beets cleanse the body, are high in many vitamins such as A, B & C. Beets are a high source of energy. They are the highest sugar source after cane sugar. In this case, the sugar is released into the system gradually, as opposed to chocolate. Beets help your mental health state. Betaine is a substance that beets hold, used in treating certain treatments in depression. Beets can lower blood pressure. This is my favorite- I have just learned in researching for this post that Beets are nature’s Viagra! The ancient Romans used them medicinally as an aphrodisiac. Beets contain a high amount of Boron, which is directly related to the production of human sex hormones. What a discovery! Wait till you see the pictures.. Oh, and by the way, do not ignore the beet’s rich green tops. Eat them too.

IMG_0792The photos above reflect several different ways beets can be prepared. The top left photo is beet infused pasta, the photo below with recipe to follow; beet bloody marys, under that are roasted beets, then chilled into a sald of pistachios and arugula with a light vinagarette. Top, beets basking in their glory, and the lower right photo is of roasted beets with orange zest. Here lies the recipe from http://www.cocokelley.com

Turn Up the Beet Bloody Mary // serves 2
4 oz chilled Hangar 1 Straight Vodka
1 ½ cups spicy tomato juice
½ cup pure beet juice
1 tbsp pepperoncini juice
½ small lemon (squeezed for juice)
1½ tsp freshly ground pepper
½ tsp horseradish
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
¼ teaspoon ground garlic
your preference for hot sauce (to taste)
Bacon salt and smoked paprika for rim
Your choice of garnish (we went with pickled asparagus, kosher pickles, rosemary, celery, peppered bacon, small beets, pimento olives and pepperoncini)

These colors leave me jazzed and rejuvinated, just looking at them. I am wearing a scarf today from Italy exactly the same color as the vegetable I speak of above. Very invigorating.

I wish you all a very happy, healthy new year 2015! Feel free to connect with me and share your views and comments!I look forward to seeing you at MATSU very soon.

Yours in joy & style,

Dava

We Three Kings …

“…of orient are, bearing gifts we traverse afar. Field and fountain, Moor and mountain, Follow yonder star.

Frankincense to offer have I, Incense owns a deity nigh. prayer and praising, all men raising Worship Him, God most high. Star of wonder, star of night, star of royal beauty bright. Westward leading still proceeding, lead us to the perfect light.”

Myrrh is mine, it’s bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom. Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding dying, sealed in the stone cold tomb.

O star of wonder, star of night. Star of royal beauty bright. Westward leading, still proceeding. Guide us to thy perfect light.”

Screen Shot 2014-12-15 at 7.32.29 PM The holiday season brings both, the best and the worse out in all of us. The best can be experienced through laughter, gift giving, and wondrous excuses to indulge freely. On the flip side, it can trigger loneliness, depression and the secret desire to simply run away and hide from shopping mayhem, holiday advertising campaigns and never ending holiday classics on the radio. There are many ways to save your soul during this hyped up, yet beautiful time of year. It’s all about your perspective, after all. This is the onset of the dark winter months that lie ahead. Winter is the coldest season, but on the subtle level it’s a time of rest, peace, inner focus, stillness and reflection. Life is rich with possibilities; learning how to utilize them during this chilly season is the key to a tranquil season.

I love the rituals and traditions the season brings. The Feast of the Seven Fishes, for example, a typical Southern Italian cultural meal prepared on Christmas eve. I actually do love Christmas music, and first one that comes to mind is what I began this blog journey on-  The Three Magi!  We Three Kings of Orient are; as lore has it,  traveled from Persia bearing Frankincense, Gold and Myrrh to baby Jesus. Despite your faith, these essential oils become more prominent this time of year. It’s already understood that Gold is given as a precious gift all year round but actually the value of frankincense and myrrh out weigh that of gold and certainly extends far beyond biblical lore. These essences are derived from plants, which are very healing on an emotional, physical and spiritual level giving meaning beyond the season.

picstitch

Frankincense and myrrh are from the same plant family and grow as small shrub-like trees in dry climates such as India, Oman, Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The resin of the plants is used medicinally and for spiritual practices for over 5,000 years. Both resins have a multitude of health benefits other than clearing negativity from a room via burning the actual incense, which by the way is even more powerful than using sage for this same reason. These resins are anti-septics, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, anti-viral, improving circulation, and as a body tonic. The list goes on.  As you smell the warm rich, sweet-woody scents you will understand the specialty these plant resins offer. They are calming, soothing and relaxing to the mind, soul and body.

Gold on the other hand, is an excellent all purpose high leel gem amplifier and electrical conductor. It helps strengthen never system, digestion and the meridian channels. Attracts prosperity, stores and amplifies thoughts/emotions/energies. It is truly a regenerator, helping to renew nerves. Gold symbolizes sthe purity of spirit.  So, as the story is told, these 3 kings traveled afar and delivered these gifts to baby Jesus. What a magical visit that would have been.

These resins remind me of church as a little girl. I cherish my faith and experience of church. As time goes on, I recognize that when I am feeling low, or zapped by negativity, I simply light a stick of Frankincence alone, or mixed with Myrrh. My mood immediately elevates. I kid you not. The scent can alter the energy in the room.

This season is indeed hectic, but I try to cherish the beauty – decorating with lights, the fresh invigorating smell of pine, and enjoying the crisp air nature has to offer this time of year. This religious and spiritual holiday brings back lots of childhood memories. As 2014 winds down, I find this to be good time to reflect and embrace appreciation for what we have, and how supportive our families and friends have been during the course of the year.

There are a lot of December birthdays, I’ve noted. We are also approaching the Winter Solstice – the shortest day of light in the whole year! We are about to approach Capricorn, as  Sagittarius wans. Either way, the birthstone of December is primarily Turquoise. We think of summer, naturally, when looking at this magical stone, but the truth is that it is indeed a winter month stone! It’s about brightening up your wardrobe energetically with this captivating color. The stones right below happen to be very earthy but the overall hue is indeed turquoise. This December stone is a purification stone. It dispels negative energy- much like frankincense and also myrrh. It can be worn to protect outside influences or pollutants in the atmosphere. Turquoise balances and aligns all the chakras, stablizes mood swings and instills inner calm. It is excellent for exhaustion and depression. This stone promotes creativity and problem solving. It is a symbol of friendship, and stimulates romantic love. The natural energy of this stone helps one to communicate truth.

IMG_8103

Turquoise aids in the absorption of nutrients, enhances the immune system, stimulates the regeneration of tissue, and heals the whole body. It contains anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effects. The photos below reflect a variety of Turquoise stones. The turquoise used in my pieces are primarily from Afghanistan and the deep green, from Tibet.

The past 11 months I have written about colors, gems and the correlation of foods, nutrients and maybe even a recipe or 3. This month, however- I have exciting news to share- and for those who may have missed the announcement. Here it is!MATSU.Announcement1

Upon coming full circle, I realize that something had been missing. I have had wonderful experiences, as I mentioned in November’s blog, and continue to be grateful for all of them, but when I drove by this little gem of a spot in November, I made a quick u-turn in the middle of Boston Post Road in order to lay my eyes a bit closer on the building. Yes, it was vacant, all right! It sat so still and empty, but I could envision the potential beauty within the space once I began to nurture it ” Matsu Style.” My stimulating challenge has arrived.

I’ve been open one week. MATSU offers the excitement of the urban experience with the comfort of home. You’ll feel it and see it once you enter this new sanctuary I’m creating. I’ve included some teaser before and after photos for you to see. I am genuinely excited. It feels like home. (Ironically, as it is very close to home.) Come visit! Like MATSU on Facebook. I thank you all in advance for the warm welcome I have received and for those that haven’t had the opportunity yet to visit, I look forward to seeing you soon.
